Placed to the center of a plain, San Mauro Pascoli lies between the rivers - Uso and the historical Rubicone - the Ancient Via Emilia and its sea resort San Mauro Mare at only 7 km.
San Mauro is a place of culture, is the land of Giovanni Pascoli (1855-1912) - which celebrates this year the centenary of death - with the birthplace of the poet, national monument since 1924. It is the landscape mirrored in the eyes of the "cavallina storna", protagonist of Pascoli's famous poem, which also tells of the "Torre", the magnificent estate formerly owned by the princes of Torlonia.
But San Mauro is also the center of a famous shoe district. Brands as Casadei, Pollini, Rossi, the younger Baldinini and Vicini (company directed by the fashion designer Giuseppe Zanotti) are vigorous and famous examples of the shoemaking Art. Finally the rich agriculture, which produces, among other things, a lettuce of exceptional quality for the promotion and defense of which, was born the consortium, "Orto del Pascoli".
